This was the second annual FJ Summit 'Volunteer Trail Work' event.
Here is the forum thread that discussed this event (LINK).

For the bizarrely curious (like me), here are links to the relevant pages for the first event, in 2010...

This year, our first stop away from the NFS station on Camp Bird Rd.
(across the street from the Ouray Mountain Rescue headquarters) was Angel Creek Campground;
immediately on the right after the second bridge crossing (i.e. not the one across the gorge) on Camp Bird Rd.

In the parking area are the sorts of things one would normally expect to see at a National Forest campground...

...including a map and a list of the rules of the campground

A quick look at the rules reveals the reason we're here for this particular job.
Take note of the first rule on the list, "Camp only in designated campsites".
Seems pretty important if it's the first rule on the list, eh?

Now, of course, we (the FJ Summit volunteers) weren't there to enforce any rules (or even tell anyone about them),
but Ranger Warren was.
It didn't take him more than 10 seconds and one sentence, and the illegal campers were busy packing up.

We started in on our job before they were even finished packing up...

Here's a little video of the workers going at it...

This is Ace Brown's dog.

checking the fit of the post in the hole

dog had better things to do :lol:

Here's Warren digging for tools, and pieces and parts in the back of his pick-up

attaching the sign

Since the ground was so wet in this location, we anchored the post with concrete,
in order to help keep it from rotting away in the wet ground, and to keep it standing up.

Ace added the final touch...

There it is.
It's sad that the lack of an obvious designated campsite sign wasn't enough, but hopefully this will do the trick.

Next, we headed further up Camp Bird Rd...

Our next task was another posthole for a no-camping sign...

For some reason, I don't have a photo of the finished product here.
I suspect this is the place where he ended up moving us over to a different spot;
either because this was the wrong place, or we couldn't get deep enough here or something like that.

There's where we ended up putting one for sure,
and since there was a rock to climb, I climbed it to get some shots from above...

JammerGirl waving to me, and that's rotorhead1's head and shoulders, looking to the left.

The finished product...

After the volunteer trail work event, Ty (FJ Summit) bought us lunch.
After that, some of us stuck together a little longer and went for a trail run.
See that little adventure on the next page -->
