Bunce School Rd. & the T33-A Plane Crash Trail with two other Sandstorms (20100919)

On our way back to the FJ, I took a little detour.
I noticed a glimpse of the view in the distance through the trees, and decided to walk about 5-10 meters up the hill from the trail.

From there, I saw this...












Then, once I got to looking at the photos, I thought it would be cool if I could find a way to blend two photos together into one;
one that had the mountains in the distance in focus, and one that had the fall colors in the foreground in focus.






I have seen this done before (and I've even done it a little), but I think it depends on how the photos were taken
(and/or on special software, or special knowledge of how to use the software).

As you can see, they aren't really, fully blended here...

If anyone reading this has an idea of how to actually do this 'the right way'
(other than just simply buying a camera that will properly focus in multiple ranges),
please let me know.  :)
