Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 - Hanging out with friends in the San Juans
v scroll down
v
Here we are at Red Mountain Pass (~3,360 meters above sea level).
The Steves found the San Juan sign a bit entertaining...
This is one of my favorite views in the world (ya, I know I say that all over
Colorado).
Looking South into Chattanooga valley from up on the Million Dollar Highway.
Here's where our little Toyota club parked for that view above.
At the farthest point tot he West on the way down the South side of Red Mountain
Pass
(just above Chattanooga) there's a neat little spot with waterfalls, and stuff.
This is the view up into the area.
Here's Steve coming around the corner.
[this is a still taken from the video that follows]
Here's a video I recorded as we were driving up to this place (the radio just
happened to be on at the time)
This is the view back down the valley.
There's a mine right next to a beautiful, long line of mini waterfalls (to the
right, off screen).
Of course, as usual, these photo shoots are a bit Sandi-heavy.
It's an FJ thing. You probably wouldn't understand. ;)
In this one, you can see the highway below the FJ; in the space between the two
driver-side tires.
...so, I just had to take another photo of that, just for the cool effect...
Here's a look at the waterfalls...
...and here's where the water goes from there.
Usually, we say, "No, thanks" (all serious, modern digital cameras have a
built-in timer mode),
but this time, when someone offered to take out pic, we said, "OK, sure".
I don't know if I liked the background or the foreground better in this one.
OK, seriously...these green, grass covered mountainsides just get to me.
What was that I said about the background versus the foreground?
:)
This is a still pic I lifted from the video shown next...
Here's a video I recorded while we were hanging out at this spot...
Here's another of the waterfalls at this place.
Watching Steve drive through the stream in my mirror...
Then we stopped at another waterfall spot along the way.
Since I already have some photos on this trip series from when JammerGirl and I
went here
earlier in the week,
I tried to be more creative this time.
OK, this first one is just the main view to set the scene...
the friends hanging out by the water (I think it was sun screen time in this
one)
Doh! There's Sandi again
Steve showing off the new Toyota 'Bat'
This was supposed to show flowers by the water, but you have to look kinda close
to see them.
This was supposed to look like water up close....well, well, whada-ya-know?!? It
does. :)
Doh! There's Sandi again (in Steve's sun glasses).
he he he he :)
I don't know why it is that I've never gone to the other side of the highway to
see the water going out of this
tunnel the other way, but at least I got a photo looking in from the waterfall
side this time.
Next time, I'll check out the other end.
Here we are at the incomparable Molas Lake.
OK, I just had to do it again...
Here's an older FJ for sale at Molas...
Steve and I were hanging out for a while on our own and he took shot
picnic time at the lake as JammerGirl fixes me up a wicked peanut butter
sandwich
(made with a croissant from Backstreet in Ouray)
Jasmine looks on
Steve and Annie checking out the picnicking facilities
Later that evening, this is the view I saw. Can you guess where I was?
I don't have any more photos of our time with these friends on this day.
I'll check with JammerGirl to see if she took any.
