Sandi, the Fossil Journey Cruiser:
a Boulder Sandstorm at Every Fork in the Road

Testing Sandi's Rear Locker (20080421)

These videos are only meant to demonstrate the usefulness of having a locker (rear locker in this case) on an off-road vehicle.
Those familiar with the benefits of a locking differential may want to save their time and pass this one up. Nothing to see hear. Move along.

In this video, you can see a 2008 Sandstorm Toyota FJ Cruiser (AKA, Sandi) with the optional, STOCK, locking rear differential.

Each of the two videos below shows this experiment in the following four phases:

1. 2WD
This is in two wheel drive (rear axle) with an automatic feature called 'Vehicle Traction Control' - the reason for any noticeable sputtering of the wheels/tires in the gravel.

2. 4WD-hi
This is in higher-geared four wheel drive with same Vehicle Traction Control as with two wheel drive mode

3. 4WD-lo w/A-TRAC
This is in lower-geared, four wheel drive - lo and with the optional, STOCK, Active Traction Control (A-TRAC)

4. 4WD-lo w/locker
This is in lower-geared, four wheel drive with the optional, STOCK, rear diferential locker engaged

(NOTE: the objective was to drive as slow as possible through the little rut; only giving her enough gas to keep her moving, intending to show what would happen in the same mode through all phases once the rear locker was finally engaged - notice the higher engine reving in 4WD-hi compared with 4WD-lo; especially how different it is once the locker is engaged)
