Switzerland Trail, Sugarloaf, Boulder, Colorado (20080419)
[story, photos, story, video]
It may not look like much (ok, it's not really much), but for those familiar
with the Switzerland Trail,
and my Sandi, (i.e.
my FJCruiserForums signature), you'll know this little climb,
and maybe you'll know why it's cool to me that I was able to do it.
There is a video of me going up this thing further below, but first, here is a
series of photos, looking from different angles
(sorry, I forgot to take a photo of the climb itself (I'll get that up here
sometime this week).
Click this link to see
the rest of the photos in that series, going the rest of the 360 degrees around;
including some great Colorado scenery,
or just continue below to see the video...
video story
While I was scoping out this obstacle, a couple of guys came along on ATVs, and
I chatted it up with them for a little bit.
One of them asked me how the FJ does off-road.
I said, "Would you be willing to hold my camera and record me doing this?"
He said, "Sure". So, I went for it.

...and keep in mind, it was wet on this obstacle that day; bad enough I'm trying
this with stock highway tires.
(FYI, the backup and retry is all me; not Sandi's fault at all. I just didn't pick the
best line for the flat-tread shoes)
Oh, by the way... when I was at the steepest angle on this obstacle,
the inclinometer alarm sounded; warning me that I was approaching the factory
specified angle limit.
(ya, I know. It IS that cool!)
Anyway, after the climb, I came back around to have a follow-up chat...
I said, "As for your question about how this thing can do off-road (I then
motioned back to the rock ledge and what Sandi had just done).
There was smiling and good conversation all around. :)
